Stretch Beyond the Basics: Become a Researcher

The Honors Program of the MLLI Department is intended for majors who want intellectual experiences that go beyond the normal curriculum: intensive discussion, research, and the preparation of publications.

The Honors Program of the Department of Modern Languages, Linguistics and Intercultural Communication provides a small group of majors with supplementary intellectual experiences, both individually and as a group. The central components of the program are:

  1. an honors seminar taught in English in which students from all tracks in the MLLI Department come together to work on a topic of their choosing and to discuss their ongoing research;
  2. the development and writing of an honors thesis, a concrete piece of original work that can be an impressive addition to the student’s qualifications in job searches or to applications for graduate school.

Students who complete the program will graduate with departmental honors.

The deadline for applications is January 15 of the year before a student plans to graduate. Some parts of the program can be completed during a study abroad experience.
